FWIW - the 26R chassis is actually heavier than the spyder replacement chassis. TTR starts with an ungalvanized replacement chassis from Lotus, then carries out the 26R mods. In the process, they end up adding a fair amount of metal. Also, the last time I checked the Tony Thomson site a 26R chassis was a fair bit more expensive than the spyder.

As a final point, the spyder chassis is a hybrid spaceframe/center tunnel design and therefore allows better access to the mechanicals than either an original chassis, or 26R reproduction.

I guess you can guess which direction I'm leaning....
