Sound Deadening On Chassis

Hi All
Thinking ahead a bit but any suggestions about what to put over the backbone of my chassis prior to refitting the shell?
The original stuff which I assume is just automotive sound deadening seems like a bad idea to me, holding water and rotting my chassis!
Something closed cell seems a better idea to me
Any suggestions?

I used a cheap closed cell camping mat (the thing you unroll and sleep on) from Argos in the UK. Cut it to size, stuck it on with EvoStik and still had a bit left.

I wondered about using something other than sound deadening but my Plus 2 chassis lasted 36 years without rotting out with the original material in place - has anyone actually seen a problem with sound deadening material in practice?

I had to replace my original plus 2 chassis about 10 years ago due to rust along both sides of the backbone at the bottom of the original sound deading material. Dont know if retention of water in the sound deadening was the cause but I rebuilt it using closed cell neoprene foam which I had put on my Elan successfully 10 years earlier.

I'm curious!!!!
Why would we want to deaden the sound?
It is part of the Elan experience is it not!
I replaced the origional horse hair mat with new. Still works on origional frme after 41 years.
