Pedal Box Cross Shaft Bushes

PostPost by: Cinbearcat83 » Fri Aug 02, 2024 2:26 pm

I have been making progress on my +2. We were testing the new clutch master cylinder and slave yesterday morning and noticed quite a bit of play in the cross shaft that spans the pedal box. (FYI - we have an access hole in the top of the pedal box). It looks as though the bushes on each side of the pedal box are worn. I have been searching the forum for solutions for replacing the shaft bushes. I have seen several pedal box rebuild discussions but haven't found any specific bushes yet. Any suggestions for replacements? - thanks, Kevin

The pedal shaft runs directly in the bosses on the pedal box. Options seem to be drill out a bit further and fit a larger shaft or have bushes made up.

Did the same with the pedal box in my Plus2. In addition, mounted a .060" 4130 plate beneath the box in the footwell. The fiber glass in the top of the footwell was too thin, allowing the whole assembly to flex. Solved the problem completely.

Thanks for the responses. It confirmed my suspicion that there is no "off-the-shelf" bush replacement for this. Good suggestions - Thanks, Keivn

Drilled the shaft, nearly all the way, fitted a 90 degree grease nipple , allowed one to grease in-situ.

I think I've seen people reporting that they switch over to a 13mm shaft, that slightly larger than factory 1/2" shaft, to take up the play.
