S1/S2 door rubber seals

PostPost by: greg40green » Sun Jul 21, 2024 10:38 am

Has any one first hand experience of where I can get a full set of new door seals that are the right profile for my S1 Elan, plus first hand experience of fitting them , where and how they fit etc.
I've now established that they do not fit on the body shell opening like the later Elans.
Is there any difference between S1 and S2 door seals ?
I'm willing to travel to view someones S1 / S2 so I can take photos ,
I live in West Lancashire near Preston .
Thanks , Greg.

Hi Greg,

If you can't find a car local to you to view I can send you photos of the installation and the required seals,

Best regards Kenny

Thanks for the offer Kenny
Are you able to share on this site or should I email or ring you?
Do you know where I'm able to purchase the right profile S1/2 door rubbers from?
I was advised to contact Miles Wilkins but when I attempt to contact him there is a recorded message saying that this is the incorrect number .
Can anyone private message me Miles Wilkins contact number please ?

This Canadian supplier is often mentioned for accurate door seals. I have no direct experience with your model though. Perhaps his Elan listings will help with your discussion. The door seals he provided for my Plus 2 fit very well, and I found the chap very helpful on the phone.

Good luck in your search.

Greg
Have a look mat thgis video from Paul H who was restoring an S2 and has produced a number of videos about different aspects of his restoration. You need to look at Video11 which deals with the doors and the part about the door seals is towards the end. You could also email him to find out where he got the seals from (he is a Brit, so it must be from somebody over here).

Hope that helps some with S!/2's

I’ve purchased a full set of S1 Elan products including seals from Mcgregor, I was very pleased with quality, fit and originality and will buy from them in future.
I’ve no commercial interest in McGregor.

Hello all and thank you for your help and advice.
I've just emailed Macgregor in Canada who have been directed to via my request for information for the S1/s2 door rubbers .
It would appear from their site that they can supply a 'Full kit ' of door rubbers , felt strips , clips and other parts needed to complete the job of sealing the doors .
If / when Macgregor replies with a price for the kit ( I've asked them for a breakdown of parts and prices ) I'll post on this site.
I'm very surprised that nobody does the seal and seal kits here in the UK, or am I wrong ?
People are directing me to Woollies , Baines etc but I'm not seeing the sealing materials or kits .
Much appreciated
Greg
