S3 heater cable route

I recently refinished my dash board and refitted it to the car but I now find the heater
cable is about an inch too short, ie, it won't reach the clamp on the heater valve. Was
not a problem before I removed the dash. The only thing I can see is I routed the cable
to the right of the demister port and hose (as shown in the pic) and maybe it should be to
the left. I put it to the right thinking it won't have any sharp bends that way.
Before I go through the contortion exercises to reroute the cable, should it be to the left?
