Inertia reel safety belts

PostPost by: TBG » Tue Feb 21, 2023 12:10 pm

Another small annoying thing that I expect one of you will have the answer. Both my original? inertia reel belts hesitate a lot when pulling them out. Is there a quick and easy way of stopping this happening? D

David, this was the only helpful info I could find after a quick search. It may be help?

"If you tap the reel gently with a hammer it can free the mechanism. I cleaned out any dirt and fluff I found then sprayed some WD40 into the mechanism; worked the belt back and forth till it became free. It's been OK ever since."

Inertia reel seat belts were a factory option for a while during Series 3 production, but you don't see many. Are they Britax or Kangol, or some other make?

Tim - they have no makers mark! Getting at the works is proving a struggle - the end cap is recalcitrant! D

The belts in my Plus2 utilize a swinging pendulum to lock the belt from moving. If the car is sitting on an angle, the belts will lock and can no longer be pulled out or adjusted when trying to fasten them. Moving the car to a level position, and everything works fine. This can be rather annoying.

Here it is. D PS - anyone know if they should be lubricated and if so how? I cannot get the end cap off but thought if I drilled a small hole I could fire in some 3 in 1 oil.

David I do not recognize you belts, they are definitely not the Kangol Reflex inertia belt used in US Sprints etc.

S3 S/E's had Teleflex belts, but they weren't safe when new and less so now; the receiver was made out of plastic and over the years they become brittle and crack very easily.

D! Where are you off to this coming summer? I'll be in France and Italy in June. I know Classic Le Mans isn't your thing, but lets see if our itineraries can be made to cross.

If it were me I'd install new belts since the webbing is probably a bit degraded due to being half a century old.

You do know that there is a Private Message button, don't you? Or, are you picking up retractable seat belts while on vacation/holiday?
