Window mechanism - a few questions

PostPost by: JeffP » Sat Oct 29, 2022 3:27 pm

I'm restoring an early 1969 Elan Plus2. The drivers window was slow to operate, the passenger's was not too bad.

I had the doors out of the car and windows would not move using a test battery. Still I was able to strip everything out ok, but I did not have the window partially down as indicated in the manual. Both motors appear to run fine when out of the car, I think they are original AC Delco, the gears are ok.

My questions are:

1. When re-assembling if I set the engagement of the pawl about a third from fully open should that making fitting easier and more correct.

2. What controls the travel of the window lift arm and how do you set it, if necessary.

3. Are lighter smaller motors than the AC Delco available

4,. Are replacements available for the nylon bush at the end of the operating arm that engages in the window channel.

Any tips on re-assembly gratefully received

I can answer 2. The lower limit is controlled by the arm hitting the stop built in to the inner door skin.
Pictures are on an old computer so here's a link to when I posted them previously. viewtopic.php?t=15907&p=79599
