Pics of rear mounting point for inertial reel-plus 2?

PostPost by: Doctor924 » Mon Jun 06, 2022 6:25 pm

Hi
Does anyone have a pic or two that shows the rear mounting points for the inertial seat belt reel for plus 2? I have a set of kangol that came with my project car but aside from the slits in the rear wheel arch trims to let the belt through , I cannot see any rear mounting points.
( I am assuming they were fitted prior to PO removing them for storage)
Thank you
Ian

Hi Ian.
Photo and PDF attached.
RH Rear Quater to Boot.jpg and

You can see, bottom left, the fixing to the body sill. There is also one on the transmission tunnel.
As shown in the PDF.

Thank you for both replies.
I definitely don't have that mounting point at the top of the wheel arch, which is very odd. I cannot see any evidence of anything ever being fitted there - its just glassfibre bodywork. I have the lap belt mounting points for the rear and the sill/transmission tunnel mount for the driver.
Confused!

I think the early <69 cars had lap belts in rear, >69 (Federalized) were shoulder.

Edit, not always drilled for. My 68 does not have the bobbin, the 72 does

Well, I have spoken with the previous owner who assured me the seatbelts were original. He cannot recall where he removed them from in the car and I still cannot see any mounting points. If I still find nothing, I’ll have to fAbricate something…
Cheers

New brackets and belts are available:

Then it's drilling a few holes in the right spot.

The rear seat belts are just lap belts. There are two plates held by 4 bolts inside the body and they bolt through similar plates underneath. I recall the centre holes are unthreaded and the seatbelt mounting bolt is secured by a nut underneath. The rear wheel well closing plates need to be removed to access the outer mounting. See below pic. The inner mountings are identical just on the transverse bit of the transmission tunnel.

Thanks for the link and pics. The inertia reel mount at the top of the inner wheel arch is the place I expected it to go, as in your pic, but it’s just glassfibre there.

Sorry I thought you were talking rear belts. Who would remove the front ones?
Yes the rear mountings are on the wheel arch. There is a plate with strengthening ribs that fits up in the wheel arch that the inertia reel bolts to. Then there is a shoulder bracket that supports the belt, a little higher, I think the access is through the side vents for these. The bottom mount is threaded in the side beams through the sills. As M.Bell says the brackets are available from SJS.

Yes the upper inertia reel mounting position is just glass fibre until the mounting plates are fitted!
One plate goes on the inside of the car and the actual anchor plate with large centre nut for the inertia reel mounting bolt goes under the wheel arch forming a sandwich through the fibreglass as it were. The two halves of the mounting plates( Inside car and underarch) are through bolted together by 4 bolts and nuts.

The underwheeel arch mounting plates usually rot away if they haven't been replaced at some point.
