hardtop window

PostPost by: alan.barker » Wed Apr 21, 2021 8:03 am

I wondered what owners with a Hardtop have been using for the Window. Plexiglass or a Glass Window.
I'd like to hear your comments please.
cheers

I believe Bill Rathlef built a mold for making plexiglass/plastic. He has built a few at least.

I will be requesting one from him.

To be honest it is for a 1978 TVR 3000S .
I found someone who has original Factory Mould to kindly make a Hardtop for me.
Just looking to see if Glass or Plexiglass is the best

Hello, Glass is heavier for sure, but it is more resistant to scratches etc.

Dunno the curvature, but if not too much then flat plexi can work. My TTR supplied window was only a little curved, nearly flat, but was way oversized, I think so that it could be fastened to the rim rather than slipped into a seal. I adjust the size bit by bit using a bandsaw, which is not as horrifying as it sounds. John

The price i have paiď for original Factory Glass window is the same as TTR want for plastic. The Hardtops for TVR 3000S cars are very rare, 20 to 30 ever produced.

Sorry but what's a Taimar got to do with a 3000S cabriolet.
My blog is about a Hardtop for a 3000S cabriolet. To complet it's Kit.
