Nut and bolt "cheat sheet"

PostPost by: pip17 » Sun Jan 31, 2021 3:36 pm

Possibly not the best title but hey ho !
Has anybody ever made up a list of all the main nuts and bolts ( diameters , lengths etc.) and where they go on the elan ?
When I bought my 1966 coupe it had been 99% mechanically dismantled by the previous owner and I have boxes and bags of nuts , bolts and fixings that im slowly trying to identify! I have the lotus workshop manual and parts list but I was just curious if there was a list of them all?
Thanks , Phil

The part numbers in the manual are an encoding of the bolt. It's explained somewhere in there. So you can look at part number and decode what bolt it is.

It should be easy to make a decoder in spread sheet or web page etc.

Here's a link to that in the wiki... https://lotuselan.net/wiki/Intro_-_Stan ... ber_Coding
Just get out your secret decoder ring and go for it.

EDIT: That wasn't really helpful. I started "the list" for the +2 awhile back and never quite finished it. It's pretty time consuming. I used excel and imported the info from the parts list a diagram at a time. Some of it probably crosses over to the elan. I don't seem to be able to upload it. If you want a copy to get you started PM me with an email address.

I can’t quite remember, but I think Brian Buckland’s book is useful about bolts. The book is quite expensive so look before you buy, I think Sue Miller stocks this book.
