What a mess!!

PostPost by: djb222 » Wed May 20, 2020 4:13 pm

Turned my attention to under the wheel arches this afternoon, removing the undersea etc. I knew before I started that something was a bit off beam. Some areas had thin grp applied to the grey gel coat and just peeled off ( a form of bodgers feathering). As I progressed I uncovered this mess. I haven't looked at the rear of the arch yet, but I suspect similar. The nearside looks as though it might be worse.

Is it the front wheel arch? Looks like oversized tyres have been fitted in the past

Yes it's the front... There isn't any wear evident from oversize tyres.

I've been told it is how it came out of the factory but I can't believe that.

Looks to me like someone has put more fibreglass on the inside of the arches to recover from or prevent stone cracking appearing on the outside which is not an uncommon problem.

cheers

My Bourne body S1 had seams like that front and rear in the wheel arches. The underlying grey gel coat looked quite pristine, which to me implied it was 'factory'.
