Catch

I’ve just removed the door panel on my plus 2 as the interior handle would allow the door to be opened. I assume that the rod has come out and it had indeed. So I’ve put it back in and now the door won’t shut as the latch mechanism hits the steel section on the door opening rather than latches round it. I’m surprised by this as I’ve not done much to cause it. Any advice as to how to get the door to close again. I’ve posted a couple of pics.

The latch on the door is in the closed position; it rotates around to open. Try rotating it upwards with a screwdriver while holding the door knob in - that should spring it back into the open position. Then when it hits the door latch on the B piller it rotates back round to lock in place.

The latch is in the closed position. Use a screwdriver to pull it open while operating the interior or exterior handle and it should then work normally.

The door catch pictured is in the closed position, put a suitable sized screwdriver into the catch and press the outside door handle or pull the inside lever while moving the screwdriver to reset the latch into the open position

THIS MUST BE A RECORD!!!

A member asks for advice and within minutes no fewer than 3 identical correct answers appear one after the other.

This is so refreshing compared with the usual mess of conflicting advice we get on here
Kindest regards

That is a pretty consistent and rapid response, Alan, couldn’t agree more. Thanks all I will give it a try.

Well tried it...and...it worked like a dream. Problem solved - thanks all - and thanks Alan for the annotated photo.

By the way what keeps those door rods from coming out of the holes? Are there little round clips or something similar?

Yes. They are visible in your pic. If you are missing one it's probably in the bottom of your door

Good news I have the clip in one of my boxes of bits. Would I not also need the terracotta coloured plastic ring too? Ive marked up the photo to show what I mean.

Yes the plastic part is essential. It goes through the clip and the hole on the lever and the rod end passes through it, expanding the 2 "legs" and holding it in place. Finally rotating the metal part and clipping it onto the rod then locks the whole assembly together.

Yes thought so. It is missing - are these available anywhere?

The plastic part is not supplied separately but the complete clip is widely available from all the usual Lotus parts suppliers :-

Also Sue Miller will stock them I'm sure, a link to her catalogue can be found here:-

The clips can also be found on ebay but be aware that there are different sizes.
