Unexpected chassis number?

Well , unexpected to me for sure. Ive just removed the chassis from my 1966 elan coupe ( vin number ; 36/5468) and went looking for the chassis number. Found it eventually on top of the chassis "spine" but the number ; 26A701 took me slightly by surprise. Do the chassis and body belong together? I would love to hear peoples thoughts please,

That is just the Lotus part number for chassis .......ops I mean subframe :lol:

Chassis number should be on the flange, just forward of the motor mount, right hand side.

I thought the numbers were marked on exhaust side?

Both my Sprint and 67 Coupe are marked on the right side. My Sprint's format is '0243K' and my
Coupe is '36/5727'.

??although I believe it is on the left side rail when it is a Lotus replacement chassis (LR)
