Dash Bolts

PostPost by: 1969Plus2 » Tue Jul 02, 2019 2:27 pm

Does anyone have photos of where the upper most dash bolts on the left and right hand side screw in on a Plus 2?

I noticed that one of my dash bolts (left hand side on a left hand drive) was spinning in place and when I went to investigate it appears that it isn't screwed into anything and doesn't look like there is anything for it to screw into! Same thing on the passenger side.

Memory says they are not functional because I remember at one point mine backed out and I just put something on them to secure them for looks Gordon Sauer

Hopefully you see the upper centre pair with bolts in. These are into threaded bobbins. On the RHS (andLHS) there,s just a hole in a flange.. this is a 68 +2.. the screws are same as the elan I think.
The PO had just used rawlplugs and mirror screws.. I will probably try to put a captive nut in. I expect it will squeak a bit if not tight

Strange, I don't seem to have those holes to bolt into...

The flange remade, or just missing at that point ? Lighter.. but a bit less functional..

Had a look at some of my pictures and my center ones are Bobbons as you?ve noted but the outer most upper ones on my dash as well are cut away and I?ve seen this on other dashes as well and I don?t know what the reason would be but I didn?t try to rebuild those. Gordon Sauer

Interesting. I can?t possibly imagine why you?d cut them away. Maybe they were frail and broke on disassembly?

Frail and broken off - probably. Same flimsy tabs found on Europas, too.

Just visible is the broken top right tab for the dashboard bolt. The centre ones have threaded bobbins bonded in on mine 1967 car but the outer ones just had a nut and washer on the back, as can be seen part of the tab has broken off and needs remaking in fibre glass, one more job on the to do list!
