Windscreen fitter

Hi all, anyone know of a windscreen fitter in North York's area who would be able to fit a new screen to my 74 +2?
Have a new screen, but car came without one in at all. Don't have any idea how it goes in apart from the guy at Lotus reckons it is a bonded type on my car. Don't think any old screen man would have any idea how to fit it and what rubbers are needed. I know I'm out in the sticks, just hoping.

You could try ringing some of the independent firms.
I'm in Gloucestershire and found a couple of fitters prepared to demonstrate their experience at decent prices.

It would be a bonded screen and kits are available from mattys and others also you fit a non bonded with a chrome filler strip as mine.
I you want details of the non bonded fixing I will see if I can find the supplier

I would be interested in learning how you fitted a non-bonded in a later +2 ? I thought that the later cars didn't have an upstand in the fibreglass to take the rubber along the bottom of the screen?

I am currently halfway through fitting a new bonded screen to my +2. I have fitted the trim to the screen and it is one of the worst, messiest & stickies jobs I have had the displeasure to undertake. If there is a way to get rid of the ridiculous plastic/chrome trim but still retain a bit of 'bling' then I would jump at the chance. If you employ a professional windscreen fitter to do the whole job make sure he or she understands the correct sequence of events and the care required to make a good job. I shudder to think of the labour cost for the whole job!!

Thanks for the thoughts. Beginning to wish I had never bought the car actually. Everything seems a pain. Suppose it's in the name. lot's of trouble ..etc. Will see how we go, may flog the thing as-is and buy something else?

When i sold my 1973 +2S130 i went over to TVR 1978 3000S and a 1976 TVR 3000M and have no regrets at all :mrgreen:
But i've still kept my 1972 Lotus Elan Sprint fhc.
Maybe i'm just greedy and lucky to have the 3 classic cars :mrgreen:

Hi John,
Just so that I understand what you did correctly...
To overcome the issue of there not being an upstand along the bottom of the later +2 to take a rubber you basically bonded the rubber to the car and then fitted the screen into the rubber?...And then afterwards fitted the early car chrome infill that you had previously measured and cut to size.
If you say this is doable to overcome the full screeen bonding issue than this sounds a great, if not original spec chrome strip, workaround! :D
