S1/S2 door lock fitting problem

Are there 2 lengths of Austin Cambridge door opener? Mine seems too long. What am I missing?
I have 4 locks and all appear the same size.
The button appears proud..
but the lock appears in the right place
and there's no way the button will sit at the right height once the handle is in place

Thanks Brian.
That's quick and very interesting
The single nearside catch I have is longer! The chrome bit that sticks through the handle doesn't really matter if its a bit longer, it's the barrel that's critical.
so I have 2 options:
Buy a new nearside lock, or scavenge the barrel mechanism from one of the 3 offside locks I have.
Has anyone ever dismantled these successfully ( to grease them etc)?
The other dimension to check would be the handle depth. There will be a gasket depth to add to it.

Well one looks ok .....my barrel approx 38mm (see pic)...... close to yours.
Do you have key locks on both sides? the rear ones for the Cambridge dont have key lock so just wondering if those are a different length?
PS I see your vernier is in the same state as mine

The long one has no lock.
The 3 offside locks are a mix of one lock and two without, but all the same length...?
I've just taken the chrome locking mechanism out of one of the offside locks, I wonder if the barrel is TIG-able?
I could cut it down and re weld at the correct length.....

Hello Brian and Graeme
I have just measured my locks in the same way as Brian and have a figure of 38.5mm.
This comes with the following warning: I have not got round to trying to fit them...and they are "fresh from the scrapyard".
I hope you will post more cases of your gremlins... they are very useful reading!

The only thing you have to remember with new parts is 'nothing fits'.
It all needs fettling
The doors are a disaster. Even the simplest things just don't fit.
Admittedly I'm a bit anal.
The scissor lifts just score the inner door skin so I reglassed those with recesses.
I think I'll take the door catches apart and change the barrels over. I will be able to anodise the outer plate then too

Out of interest, where did you buy your "scissors" / other door parts ?
The scissors are TTR, made from steel. I have seen the ali ones from Kelsport and I would say the TTR ones fit better!! I'll get them anodised before final fitting
The ali door handles are a race item from Dave Hughes, the locks are from ebay(original), the window channel stuff and lock plates are all TTR, as are the plastic windows.
The doors are TTR
The inside door handles are original from a member on here
