What car is this boot lock originally from?

Just about to list this lock and key on eBay (along with the latch/support and a few other bits).

Any idea what car it was originally fitted to so I can increase my seller base?

Ive asked too and got no joy.....other than its also on the early Elite
I guess they had some spare lying around

Yeah, but Lotus didn't have it made so it must have come from somewhere

One of the rumours from years ago was that it was a lock used in boat cabins, which in some ways might make sense with the Norfolk Broads and lots of boat manufacturers in the area. I did make some fairly extensive enquiries with chandlers and the like looking through catalogues etc but never found it.

On a wider scale I believe again if you trawl the site (and it is slow) they stock door handles etc may be the correct ones for our Elans. All the other people that have a stock etc must get them from somewhere, here? I don't know.

I am not sure at 100% not even 75 % but my father in the happy sixties owned two cars (not at the same time of course...) and I remember one of them had very similar rear bonnet lock it was a britsh car called something like"vanguard" if my memory is good the other one was a ford prefect...But too ancien souvenirs to be sure....

Might not be from a car or a boat. You never know- could have been sourced from just about anything, possibly not even a vehicle. Might even have been a stand-alone product made for general use.

When looking for a replacement handle for my Elva Coupe, I believe I saw one similar to this in my ancient Europa Spares catalog. They may be able to identify the origin.

I always assumed they were early GT6, but now think that is probably wrong (have just googled GT6 boot handle). Interestingly TR7/8 early pops up and looks similar on e-bAY But I'm not sure it's likely.
I assume you know this is on the early +2 (pre S).

S1-S2-Coupe parts book shows the latch as 36 B 803, Although I believe it was made by Wilmot-Breeden, there is no reference here to that effect.

I disagree about being in Norfolk and marine uses, because if this was used on Elites in 1959, Lotus wasn't even in Cheshunt when the Elite was being drawn and the move to Norfolk was years later.

Though it's a great story I can't imagine it being true (also a google image search of vintage filing cabinets shows nothing). Lots of cabinets from that era were 4 drawer - can you imagine a lock like that sticking out into a room you'd constantly be catching yourself on it. It would look a little ridiculous on a fling cabinet IMHO.
