door handle mechanism

hello, just a simple question but i dont want to take my door cards off for no reason.
on the door catch mechnism, where it is operated from the inside handle is there any way of adjusting it so i dont have to pull/lift the handle so far up to open the door? the only way I can see of doing it is to shorten or bend the operating bars/rods which run from the handle to the catch. At the moment one door barely opens from the inside as the handle doesnt move the catch quite far enough.
any advise?

just put a slight kink in the rod or make a new rod from scratch.

I had an identical problem on my driver's door. I found there is a very fine line between smooth operation and non operation. It turned out (mostly) to be worn holes on the black plastic handle, and in the door holes where it mounts. The handle had worked its way towards the rear enough to help the problem. A lot of spray lubrication on both ends helps also. Be careful, make sure the door is latching completely after you've got it to open properly, sharp turn, door flys open...
