windshield availability

Folks,
Are new windsields/screens readily available for an S2? The reason I am asking is that the screen is out of my car (original, looks as though its been shotblasted!), and we'er moving homes very shortly. Would prefer to toss and buy a new one, unless you advise me to keep mine as a pattern.
Thoughts?
Cheers,
Bill Tebbutt

I, too, bought from Richard Tankel for my S4. The only one available was tinted. I really didn't want tinted and had actually held off from buying for several years before I talked myself into getting it. My plea here on the forum for a clear one went empty.
The windshield came through beautifully packed and communication with Richard was great throughout. I recommend them highly.

Hi Bill,
Hold off making a final purchase, my niece's husband needs one for his S2 & I need a new one for my S4. I live in Burlington & Brandon lives nearby in Waterdown.
Kevin who lives nearby & just finished a rebuild on a Europa purchased one last year & I have sent an e-mail to him to see where he got his. Maybe we can do a deal by purchasing three together & share the freight costs. Shouldn't cost much more to ship three instead of one.

Just got this reply today, so I guess we will have to do some more investigating. If anyone has any other suggestions where we could purchase clear windshields I would appreciate knowing. I don't know if they are available in the UK but if they are then a bulk purchase of 4 or 5 might be feasable.
Keith:
I can only help with green tinted glass for the windshields, nothing on side glass. Let me know and I can provide pricing and del info. Thanks, Richard

Keith
For what it is worth, I have my origional 1964 parts list book in front of me for the S1 series Elan ( it and the shop manual came with the car as there were no dealers in North America at the time of my purchase).
The windscreen, Lotus part no. 26 B8029, has no proprietary parts no. It was stand alone Lotus only.
We are on our own!!
In my accumulated notes I see that for the 1966 - 1974 +2,+2S, and +2s/130 that the proprietary windshield from a Ford Capri Mk1, Consul Classic or Scimitar fits (I don't know how old my notes are) But it has to be 30 years!
The only reasonable solutions I can think of are:
A; duct tape a packing blanket over the screen before a drive and stick your head out the side, or;
B; Get a group purchase organized, find a screen producer for a lot purchase, be prepared to provide a sample to work from.
I am happy / willing to throw in seed / deposit funds to get it going but I can't do much here on the rock (Vancouver Island)
If it doesnt work out I will stay with "A" above!

Paul Mattey sports cars in UK can supply Pilkingtons/Triplex untinted screens for S1+S2 cars. Apparently there is a difference of approx 1/2" in o/all width between S1 + S2 cars, so it would be best to take some dimension of your original screen for reference.
I have recently purchased a screen from them and whilst I have an S1, through trial and error I found the screen for an S2 fitted my original S1 frame better (go figure).
That said, both S1+S2 replacement screens did not have the curvature of my orginal and some glassfibre work was required to get the frame an exact match.
Hope this helps

Paul Matty won't ship due to costs of freight & insurance, they will only sell if you pick it up.

Hi Sebring
How do I put this so I don't sound rude and arrogant,
"I don't think so."
ALL roadsters use the same windscreen, there is only one. If Matty has an issue its because the manufacture has changed the product. The S1, S2 and Coupe Master parts book lists the same screen part number for both S1 and S2 Roadster there is another for the then NEW (1966) S2 Coupe that was used until the Sprint went out of production.
Part numbers for the S1 and S2 roadster and the S2 Coupe from the parts manual are as follows
Illustration Part Number Decription - Height - Width
BA133 ---- 26B 029 --- Windscreen - 18.125 - 45.5 -- bottom corners are rounded - ROADSTER
BB140 ---- 36B 029 --- Windscreen - 19.000 - 46.25 - bottom corners are pointed - COUPE
The measurements were taken from oem factory windscreens as I write this, this is the overall length and height of the screen itself out of the screen frame just as a glass supplier would measure it.
new part number were as of 2004 were

I came across a windscreen sticker the other day that was affixed
to a new windscreen that I installed a few years back in my old S4 dhc. Triplex lists the part # HT0265 GN fitting Lotus S2, S3, and S4. I got beat on this 25 years ago when I ordered one for my S2 and
recieved one for the S4 windscreeen. So now when I go looking for S2
windscreen I tell them its for a S1. triplex part# for the S1
windsceen is HT0166

Try Lo-Can Glass at 64 Cummings Park Woburn, MA 01801-2124
Richard Tankel is the manager there and the phone # is 800 345-9595
http://www.locanglass.com/contact.asp
I got one there last Summer, but its was for a series 3. There are 2
kinds, one is HT166 in clear ($261) or tinted ($274) that covers the
S1 and S2 roadsters, just call it a S1 and keep the confusion down.
The other is for the later models, S2 coupe, S3 dhc and coupe and S4
dhc and coupe which is more money. The later windscreen has sharp
corners near the scuttle where the early windscreen (HT166) has
rounded corners and are easier to install.
The following topic is about screen frame differences for the S1 and S2, there is some but its not in the opening for the screen. There is only one roadster screen frame listed for both S1 and S2 Roadsters but there are two types, see Bill Gavins photos in the following topic. The part number listed for both is 26 B 702

p.s. - I think I failed on the rude and arrogant part. I think I'll get my coat on, it's cold out side...
