Door handles

I need to remove my door trims, I have removed the screws from the inside door handles and they wont come off. I presume there is a spring clip behind the handle that requires a flat tool to remove?
Can some one steer me in the right direction.

It would help if you said which model (& year) of Lotus you have

It is a 1967 model, chassis 50-100 elan 2+2.
