S4 SE badge positions and type

Hi all,
Just trying to sort out what badges my elan S4 SE should have, and where should they be positioned.
The chassis number of the elan is 36/8319 registered in 1969 and when I bought it five years ago and all of the badges had been removed for a respray and where not with the car when I bought it.
I know that it is a black badge model but that is about it. Should I have badges on both the front and rear wings, should they be on both sides and what type of badge should it be?
Many thanks
Ian

I have 36/9681 owned from new first registered 1st. Jan. 1970 (so build date `69). Its a S4 FHC but not a Special Equipment model.
Badges are - rear drivers side - WORLD CHAMPIONS
CAR CONSTRUCTORS
63 65 68
passenger side rear - S4
SERIES FOUR
passenger side front - ELAN
I think if it was a SE model it would have this badge on the front drivers side.
Regards John

I agree with Mark...here's the nearside showing the Elan badge and the S/E badge. This one is a Jan 70 build.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies.
Just for confirmation:
Black badge on bonnet,
LOTUS letters on the boot lid
SE on the passengers rear wing
S4 or Championship on the drivers rear wing ????
ELAN on the passengers front wing
ELAN on the drivers side front wing ????
Is the above correct?
Thanks
Ian

Nearly! Only one 'Elan' badge .... on the passenger front wing. Then, if S/E, S/E badge on rear passenger wing. If not S/E, S4 on rear passenger wing. Both S/E and S/4 had Championship badge on drivers rear wing.
Some had black nose badge, some had original yellow/green badge. Never got to the bottom of what or when had which. Probably depended on what was in the parts bin at the factory. Get one of each and change them periodically

I have an S4SE and my badges as are Marks description.
I never go to the bottom of why there is only one Elan badge. Is it to save weight as only those on the pavement would be able to read the script, from the other side of the road it would be too far away? In that case are the LHD cars the other way around?

Ian,
Here are some pics of my S4 (45/9693):

The members of this list were very helpful with getting my badges sorted out and placed in the right spots. I'm pretty confident they are as original. A good strategy is to remove interior carpet/panels and often you can spot the original holes from the inside.

Looks like you've answered another question, Will....'Elan' and 'S/E' or 'S4' always on the passenger side...so the pedestrians know what's just going past!
Lovely original looking car...is that loop pile in the trunk? Can you still get it in the US? Just the right colour for the Elan as well.

That is one smart looking Elan & the Photo's are great.
I noticed that you seem to have moved or removed the heater valve, a subject being discussed on another thread.
What's your solution?
Cheers
John
