Safety Devices rollbar pics

PostPost by: jimbo » Thu Jul 17, 2008 4:27 pm

I seem to recall having seen some, but I can't find them in the forums at the moment, so does anyone have any pics of one in situ, ideally in a DHC Sprint? :D

Thanks

James

Jimbo,

What exactly do you want to see?

Just the general profile etc. Rear view, front view, side view. I am debating fitting one and the wife wants to know what they look like in the car. She quite rightly has queried whether they spoil the lines/aesthetics.

IMO the roll bar actually enhances the look of the car with the hood down.

What spoils the normal aesthetic appearance is the bloody awful window frames. But with a roll bar I don't seem to notice them so much.

I have to admit, without frames (and roll bar), the Elan looks really terrific.

Here are a couple of pictures of my Sprint showing the Safety Devices roll over bar. I also think it looks quite good, not intrusive at all. Having black interior helps to blend it in.

Thanks for the replies - they have put my mind at rest ... and that is a lovely looking Sprint! Are the head pads standard on the Safety Devices cage now? I've only ever seen them on the Spyder cage before. I also like the idea of the high 3rd rear brake light. Do you remember where you got it from?

Thanks again.

Sold! That looks beautiful. I spent all this time looking for a gold leaf sprint and end up being wowed by one in solid red!

...But a disadvantage of roll-bars is that they stop you carrying bikes...

Surely they actually make it easier as you can balance them on the bar and windscreen surround?

There's a danger then that you may scratch the paint

Back to roll bars...do any of these bars allow the seat to be pushed fully back? On all the bars I've seen the side of the roll bar gets in the way of the back of the seat a couple of inches before the seat is back all the way. Makes a big difference to tall blokes like me...but then again, my head would probably stick above the top of the bar anyway!

Quite the opposite! On a couple of occasions, way back when, I bungee-corded my bike to the rollbar. If I have a picture to prove it, it's at the bottom of a shoebox somewhere. Since the bike was upright and crossswise (and tall, like me) it ruined the Cd.

I love the sound of a torque wrench in the morning. Sounds like... progress.

Hi,

I'm pretty certain that the red & white Sprint has a Spyder roll bar fitted; they have the option to add the head restraints.
In my oppinion they don't have such a nice shape as the TTR / Safety Devices roll bar (See pic. of my car).
They are also made in 2 parts & welded together with a sleeve in the middle, which is visible on the red & white car.
The lump that can be seen in the middle of the roll bar on my car is a brake light added by me is for better visibilty for other road users

Have a nice weekend
John
