Aerial

Hi all,

I'm restoring my S4 FHC's body at the moment and on the rear panel, close to the filler neck hole there is a hole where a radio aerial has previously been located. I still want to have a radio fitted, but I don't like the idea of a radio aerial spoiling the lines of my Elan. Has anyone ever fitted to an FHC, an aerial within the body? I'm thinking possibly a loop type aerial in the roof where it would be hidden by the headliner or even an aerial inside the rear quarter vent panel. Any ideas?

My car has an electric aerial, but fitted to the nearside. There are plenty of them on eBay - for example:

I just took my first drive with a radio - ever - in my S2. It's a modern unit, so it has a good tuner. The antenna is a Dakota Digital amplified unit that is mounted inside the boot on the underside of the body at one side of the lid, completely hidden from outside view. The antenna is very compact (it seems to show up a lot on motorcycle sites).

Reception with the engine off is fine. With the engine running, there is significant interference and static, which I am going to have to debug. I don't know if I have suppressor leads so that is probably where I'll start.

There are also non-powered options, the purveyors of which heap scorn upon the amplified units. Searching the Web for "hidden antenna" will give you an idea of what's out there.

The traditional suppressor is a metal plate which goes over the spark plugs, using 4 of the cam cover bolts.

Mine had one, but it disappeared in one of the rebuilds.
