Easy Boot Lid Seal question

PostPost by: stuartgb100 » Sat Aug 05, 2006 5:29 pm

Water is leaking badly into the boot.

There definitely is a leak (minor) from the rear screen rubber, but 90% + is coming via the boot lid seal.

I've bought a new seal, but before I fit it, which way round does it go?

The flap that seals against the lid could either be pointing in towards the boot area, or outwards.....?

Since the PO fitted the seal with the join under the windscreen, I'm not inclined to just copy his installation.

Regards,
Stuart.

Stuart

Mine has no such flap but my vote is outwards and make the join in the center above the rear bumper

Stu,

When you look end-on at a new seal, it is like an ' h ' in section, except that the top leg of the ' h ' is inclined, like ' / ' ... (that's what I meant by 'flap') ... so there are two ways to fit it.

If there are two ways to fit it, then I would guess that only one way is correct ?

Regards,
Stuart.

No saying it's correct but on mine the / of the h is pointing away from the boot....

Stuart

The / should be pointing out of the boot as John suggests. That way any pressure, such as driving wind, will increase the seal to the lid. If it is fitted facing toward the boot then the pressure will force water between the lid and the seal.
