MGF seats

The seats in my +2 need serious work. The foam is shot, as are the seat pans and the leather, so I’ve bought some MGF leather seats. Most replacement seats are MX5 mk1, but these are becoming scarce and expensive particularly as people are now restoring MX5's, while MGF seats are readily available and in my view look better, more suitable for an Elan +2.

I have just fitted the first seat during a dry build before painting. The following is how I’ve fitted them.

First remove all feet from the MGF seats by drilling out the rivets.

I started with a flat plate of 2 mm mild steel, but ACBC would have haunted me, far too heavy. So I’ve fabricated a base to bolt on to the MGF seat runners and match the existing seat mounting bobbins.

The seats fit fine in the space available and I think they will be fine once refurbished.

They look good!
How does the headrest height work out in relation to the roof headlining and the ability to tilt the seat to gain rear access?

The way I’ve mounted them prevents tilting but they slide well forwards to allow access to the rear.
