A front, almost horizontal, "shelf" type spoiler set well back and low from the front significantly improved my lap times and the car felt more stable under breaking.
Paint it black and no one will see it.
Of course the car is raked forward.
Sports Car Graphic tested the car when new and found downforce both front and back in stock configuration.
The under car shape below the radiator is a major contributor the that downforce.

Take a look at this picture of a Lotus Elan driven by Paul Newman. The front of the car shows a tasteful spoiler/air dam.
I used to own an Evante 140 TC that had modified body work to add a spoiler in the front and rear.

Smooth out the underside and add 12-15mm back to front rake.
No change to appearance.
