Minilight Wheels

Hello all,
I've taken delivery of John Clegg's Plus 2 and I have decided to replace the steel wheels with 14X6 Minilights . I've contacted Spyder and they estimate six weeks delivery, I've also emailed Minlight, but have not had a reply as yet.
Is there anyone else who supplies these wheels. I will also have to decide which tyres to fit, so any advice on suitable tyres would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Alan,

I bought mine direct from Minilite (Tech Del) via the NEC show a number of years ago.

I can advise you on tyres and wheel sizes - mine are, I think, 5" or 5.5". I think you might need 2.5" rear springs to accept these wheels.

Thank you, i had realized that, but I note that there is some sort of washer or spacer to fit on the Plus 2 and thought that only Lotus people would be aware of this. but thank you anyway. Alan

As for tyre size you need 185x65x14 don?t be tempted to go for 60 profile or you will have a big gap at the top of the wheel arches.
Here?s mine with 14x6 wheels and 185x65 Yokohama C drive tyres. My wheels are bolt on, but exactly the same as what you need apart from that.

Thanks for the photo, they really fill the arches out and look good. Can anyone enlighten as to use of the spacer, as specified by Spyder?

AFAIK The spacer goes between the spinner and the wheel centre. You can see it in the picture below.

Don't discard the steel wheels, as they are effectively irreplaceable. As far as I can find, there are no remanufactured replacement steel wheels

Thanks Richard, I'm a hoarder, so they will be kept safe. But I will have eight steel wheels in stock, when I replace with alloys.

I think you will fine that the standard steel rims are actually about the same if not lighter than a cast alli one. And they look nicer IMHO. Shame no one reproduces them.

i think revolution do a 13"x5.5" knock on that doesn't need a spacer,Kelvedon were selling them,probably lighter than minilites

Keith: I was referring to the knock off itself. Why not have some cast up in 26R style but threaded for 'normal' hubs? It would save a lot of unsprung weight-and look good.

Minilite wheels seem to be surprisingly heavy. Revolution wheels are much lighter.
