+2 heater

Hi
The lack of space behind the dash is ridiculous. My radio with CD player won't fit without it protruding from the dash. The wiring loom is jammed in there so tight it clashes with the rear of the instruments. And the heater flaps are just useless.

I founde a heater that is much smaller than the original lump of metal. (I worked at Fords from 70 to 78 and used to fit the same heaters in Escorts and Capris) I took a leap of faith and removed the original heater. The new heater comes in two formats one has four open spigots, two for the demisters and two for the eyeball vents on th the dash. The other has two open and two with controllable flaps. The latter spigots direct hot air into cabin and the open ones are connected to the demisters I am fitting the latter type to avoid the problem of threading the hose for the eyeballs through the back of the dash. The tunnel carpet will be altered to suit.

The dimension are 195 x 170 x 120mm I made a box of the same size and took some snaps as you can see the space behind the dash has increased enough to allow a proper radio to be installed and stop the loom being squashed. I will make up a bracket to secure everything properly and plan to fit a heater control valve under the bonnet. The old heater control levers will be refitted for aesthetics.

I should say my car has a zetec engine fitted so I have the room for the heater valve

Hi Tablet 32,
I, and others have fitted a solid state radio therefore is much shallower than one with a CD drive in. I fitted a InPhase IP 100SSD 45 Watts per channel, USB, SD and Aux for your Ipad.
Fits into the dash without any modification. Load all your music on an SD disc and away you go.
There are other units on the market, you could search the archives here or google it!

Hope it helps

Hi Jeff.
I did think of fitting a different radio but had already been given the one I have as a gift. The radio isn't the only reason for the change of heater. The original is in a sad state and needed replacement anyway. So I looked for alternatives and decided on this mod. The extra space for the loom is also a consideration. Thanks for your comments.
