My Zetec +2 project update

PostPost by: Netec99 » Sat Sep 14, 2013 9:51 pm

I started posting my Zetec project under the name " my modified early spyder chassis". The project has moved on since and I finally drove the car out of the garage today. :D
Here are a few pictures of the car so far

Looks terrific; a lot of thought & hard work gone into that for sure.

Here are a few more pictures of my project car. Passed MOT this weekend :D
Just got to sort a few teething issues to sort out before giving it some good run outs.
So hopefully on the road in the next week

You appear to have got the ride height around original (or perhaps even lower) compared to many plus 2 Zetecs that are jacked up for ground clearance under the sump and exhaust. What have you done to achieve that?

Fantastic job! Not only beautifully accomplished but your timeline is amazing to one who is moving at a much slower pace. You inspire me!

Your pictures answer my question, "Can painted bumpers be made to look good on a +2?" They sure can. I also like the de-chromed look of your grill opening and, as stated above, you've nailed the ride height. Very well done. :D

Hi Rohan,
Because I'm using an original modified Spyder chassis, I have been able to use fully adjustable shocks front and rear.
The ground clearance is OK, but I do need to be very careful over some speed bumps. I could raise it higher, but I think it will spoil the look.

How have you dealt with the sump and exhaust manifold? These are the two things that usually stop +2 Zetecs from being able to sit at that ride height! I see you used an Escort Zetec sump, and you mention modifying it - what did you end up with? Grinding a bit of the ally away, and also dropping the ARB?

Your car does look the business, though - congratulations, you must be delighted!

Rob

I am also embarking on an early Spyder chassis rebuild just as yours. Very interested in your Gaz adjustable upgrade. Can you post make and model of those for me ?
