Presumably some S3 (Vauxhall) rear lights were not available. A good fit, as you say, and would be bigger/brighter to help ward off rear-enders.
This, I believe, is how Brian Walton's rally Elan was when he got it. IIRC Hillman Hunter lights.

Carl,
If that Mk3 Escort in the picture was as new as it looks, you must have taken this in the 1980's? I remember doing all sorts of dastardly things to cars that were almost but not quite classics back then.
I do lots of dastardly things these days as well, but tend to leave the silhouette of the car as original as possible.
Here is the definition of a Purist
Noun 1. purist - someone who insists on great precision and correctness (especially in the use of words)
bookworm, pedant, scholastic - a person who pays more attention to formal rules and book learning than they merit. In other words and this is bourne out by experience : They are all talk and of little substance.
Regards

I was very guilty of same type of thing see below!!!!!
First Elan was H reg S2 fitted extra pop ups with Cibie oscar internals for rallying!! I was only 19
I flaired in the bumper but it is not a Shapecraft!!!!!!!!!!!!
Plus 2 had 1760 T/C on 45s with 7 inch rims
Europa was type 52 twincam development car with 47 shell and 47 type twin trailing link, reverse lower wishbone and single top link. This car had 1700cc suck throgh turbo engine driving through a Ford Taunus front wheel drive gearbox.

Dave,
Did notice whether the changes to the +2 made any difference to the stability at higher speeds?

Hi Mike
The car was set quite a bit lower than std and ran on wet weather race tyres(didn't last that long in dry!!!!!)
The front air dam prevented much of the air from going under the car and once over about 60mph the back was quite stable as the rear spoiler seemed to have an effect.
The Europa in the pic was set up with skirts and sleeping policemen had to be avoided at all costs!
Cheers

Thanks Dave,
Mine will be road only but I may try a subtle spoiler at the front to see if it helps stability at speed.

This takes some beating but has a good chassis if anybody is after one.
