HypoJets and O-tubes on the way...
Talk to Keith on the yahoo group sidedraft_central. He can give you the recommended starting settings for a standard twin cam using his jets and emulsion tubes and they will be an order of magnitude better than standard set up. Best thing you can do to your Webers. Made a huge improvement in my Plus 2S 130/5
In my Elan I have spent hours on dynos to match the carbs to the engine developments I have done. I can justify that on a race car but hard to justify for my weekend fun car. On the Plus 2 I run a standard sprint spec engine and fitting Keith's modified jetting made a huge difference in tractability and smoothness
cheers

I got a step up from Keith. O2 tubes and 20 thou hyper jets to run with 33mm chokes. Fitted 120 wet jets but also got 115 and 125 just encase.
I've not run it yet but I expect that he'll recommend the same for std big valve. If you have different sized chokes you may need a different set up.

I spent a lot of today between reading this thread and the garage checking my 40DCOE33s on the bench. It seems my throttle plates at zero turns on the idle speed screw are about a half transition hole downstream of ideal. I.m trying to get someone to get the endfloat out of my distributor and wait for the Powerspark ignition bits to arrive before I put everything back together and try it with what I hope will be an optimised standard setup. Once i have it idling correctly I'll do a proper (Keith Franck method) fuel level adjustment and install his Hypojets and O-tubes. Fascinating learning about all this and I'm hopeful that I'll end up with a smooth-running and reliable Elan!
P.S. One thing I've discovered that's a cure for old eyes is to take a good digital photo and zoom right in. It's amazing what you can see then!!
