Steve
I have had a look for the 3M dual lock as this product makes a lot of sense as it avoids fasteners and extra holes.
It is available in smaller quantities from my local hardware shop (Leroy Merlin) for 5.30 ? :

so I dare say you can find it in Essex for a similar amount!

Thanks for this Andrew. Yes, it is available in the UK at around ?15/m. However, I have used similar stuff but it didn't like sticking to carbon, possibly due to it being a few years old. I have used it successfully to attach the water overflow bottle to the header tank.

A coat of rattle can grey primer shows up all the small defects which I will now deal with.

I have been spending rather a lot of time recently doing other, less fun, stuff but I have now managed to get back to working on the Elan. This video shows where I am up to. Next big tasks are to make the carbon doors and roof. When mentioning the master cylinders behind the dash, I of course mean fluid reservoirs

" Nitrous - well ya never know"
Great quote.
Loving your work. Very interesting tour around having just finished the prep work on a 26 GTS FIA car. I can appreciate the work that has gone into that.
With adjustable front castor presumably you are not running trunnions?

Enjoyed the video walk around Steve. Really gave perspective of all the work you have been doing over the years. I need to watch again as there are so many custom modifications it’s overwhelming. Exciting to see it all coming together.

Started working on the carbon fibre roof on my Elan. I am using an old Lenham top as the pattern from which I can take a mould. However, and I have known this for a while, one side of the car is 30mm longer than the other side! So when offering up the top it overhangs the door openings. It overhangs both sides but more on the passenger side. I have since found out that they are supposed to overhang, so I only have to adjust one of them.
I am going to have to butcher the top in order to line it up, plus a lot of other mods to accommodate the Lexan rear screen and flush mounted side windows. First job is to secure it to the body and then shape it to suit.
The rear under window strip is too long, I guess due to how I am fitting the roof sans rubber seals, so it had to be cut.

Getting stuck into making the roof pattern. To that end I have to modify the rear window opening to take 3mm Lexan either screwed or bonded in rather than using a rubber seal. I am also making the area around the window more aerodynamic (of course ) by lifting the window up closer to the roof line. Tomorrow I will attack the roof overhang of the door opening now that I have decided what to do.

Started on adjusting the roof fit to the door openings. Also adjusted the tapering door gap on the driver's side and tied the roof line into the new alignment. Apologies for the sideways photos, no idea how to rotate them
