My normal rides, i do trim both up and down mainly. So i try to coach on sail shapes and balancing the draft then when the kite goes pop ( i love flying them) i coach on down wind techniques. A bit more involved depending on how seriously the crew can race.
As for spyder conversion, i do have a spare spyder chassis which i was going to use. Ill have to leave this untill i have a stable source of funds.
I intend to use the lotus chassis and four speed box now. I have been sent some very good pics and advice on how to construct the mounts. Family life, young kids, work. Lack of funds. All things that have brought it to a rapid grinding halt.
At least after 25yrs in millitary service im finally getting some familly time so i cant complain (too much).

I meant their engine mounts, not a complete chassis

Oh sorry,
But in that case yes i have seen both. But only mounts for twincam, my chassis needs mods to be zetec friendly.
After this weekends RTI race ill be on dry land for a while. So i need new engine mount rubbers which get turned upside down. I have metal to act as a spreader so i just bolt these thu the chassis. I need 'X' mm thick plate to be spreaders on the zetec, 4 to 6mm is ok i think.
I then have an option of using the sypder mounts, which i have, to bolt the lot together. This is almost sounding a nil welding required. Or use them as a template to create something that needs welding. I still need to do front x member so welding seems the more likely choice.
Lucky for me i have had offers of assistance from several elan.net guys, Jons closest so ill be making him bacon n egg sarnies.

It's been a while since my last update.
Intercooler and radiator are in place and front clip frame is finished.
Air filter box designed, made and bespoke filter has arrived from ITG.
Started on the ducting from the filter to the turbo, in carbon of course
Also started on undertrays that will smooth out the underside of the car.

At the moment ride height is around 150mm. I could fit shorter springs but this then compromises the wishbone angle. I will wait until I have the actual wheels and tyres fitted (not purchased yet) and look at it again.

I have come up against a problem, sorry, challenge In order for the front clip to open the front section of the undertray (from splitter to front crossmember) has to be in two parts. However, when the clip is opened (by rotating around the steel tube shown) the part attached to the splitter fouls the second part of the tray. Presently looking at options but suggestions welcome

Move the join further back, extend the undertray part attached to the splitter.
Or I have misunderstood, - highly probable!
I know its not to scale but you will have minimum ground clearance, wont the front edge of the splitter hit the ground when you open the bonnet?

It is as long as it can be due to the air filter just above it. Any longer and it would foul.
Ground clearance, as the car is road legal, is around 125mm so no issues with splitter hitting ground

Thanks for the suggestions, they got me thinking.
I think that I have cracked it. The hinge mechanism (tubes sliding inside tubes) allows the clip to be removed. Adhering to KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) I realised that I could modify this to allow the clip to be pulled forward 35mm before opening in order for the splitter section to lift up without fouling the rest of the undertray.
A quick dabble on AutoCad confirmed that this should work.

Just asking the question stimulates the thought process and often the answer comes without the other party doing anything other than listening and asking for clarification.
I started as a design draughtsman then went freelance, I hated working on my own on a project, a busy design office is a fertile atmosphere, later on running a different business things really took off when I took premises amongst other small businesses, best time of my life, being able to talk through challenges with like minded people is something I really miss here in France.
Just asking the question stimulates the thought process and often the answer comes without the other party doing anything other than listening and asking for clarification.

Agreed, bouncing ideas around can get you out of a thinking rut. Working on my own in the garage with no one to bounce ideas off means that sites like RR are a godsend.
Again, I have succeeded in making one item do two jobs.......hopefully
