Honda S2000 engine and box
Hi
You do not need to dismantle the box to shorten the shaft.
Just cut off the gearbox shift extension.
Remove the bolt holding on the pivot.
Cut to required length, redrill and tap the bolt hole and decide how to secure the stick mount.
Job done.
Cheers
Dave

I had to sign up just to tell you this is an outstanding project. I've been thinking along the same lines as nothing beats modern engine...turn the key...start....go....no drama....just change oil, I think that's about it. And as a S2000 engine + gearbox is under $4k here in US and gives massive HP and reliability...honestly, I don't know how much better it gets.
Nice execution, I look forward to following this project.

I'll post some pics of the shell in a few weeks.
Just sorting out running the exhaust.
Had to cut back the footwell a bit.
Will update asap
Regards

MG enthusiast John Hoyle in Surrey has built a superb MGA roadster with the Honda S2000 engine and 6-speed gearbox. This car is a work of art and, by heck, does it go! I can't imagine how quick an Elan would be. The MGA probably weighs twice what an Elan does.

These modern gauges do not look period correct.
Buy them off of eBay, it mat take quite some time to locate the correct ones. Send them off to any of the usual suspects to be refurbished, if needed. Then the tach works correctly, the speedo is calibrated to your car, and everything looks period correct.
Even in our Lotuses, the typefont changed from S1-S3 and S4-Sprint, and the ranges of data displayed changed, so there is a lot to consider.

Hi Guys
Some progress but not a lot!
Shell has been on and off chassis several times.
Rear end cut away and a section will be made up to aid diff removal if required. I hope not!
I have now decided to run the exhaust forward and in front of the oil filter sandwich plate, which was fitted to avoid the oil filter fouling the chassis.
The steering column will probably have 2 uj's to route it through the new manifold but at least this will avoid the footwell having to be cut right back with the seat also having to be moved back considerably. Not a problem if you drive on the wrong side of the road!!
I'll hopefully get on with things in the next few months.

Hi Dave,
Lookin' good ! Keep up the good work.
Do my eyes deceive me or is the standard bonnet going to clear the cam cover ?
Best,
Jon

Hi
The std bonnet will clear.
At the moment the engine mounts are on adjustable studs to get everything lined up then once final settings are done I'll make up the final mounts.
I intend to fit an alloy sump guard bolted to the bottom of the chassis as the cross member will not be in place.
cheers
Dave

Hi Dave,
There's a bloke in Oz who built his own dry sump for the S2000 motor. He did it because of hieght issues in a clubman racing car. Dunno if the S2000 has the oil surge issues that the standard Twink motor does.
I'll find the link if you're interested.
Best.

Hi Dave,
Have you decided what you're going to do about an engine management system for the S2000 engine ? There's a bloke in the U.S. who put an S2000 in his Spitfire and used the standard system but he said he had a lot of red lights on the dash. That begs a ton of questions.
Best,
Jon
