Electric fuel pump elan +2

PostPost by: alan.barker » Mon Mar 30, 2020 9:52 am

There are 2 different choices with the pressure. I have fitted one with lower pressure(for Weber) in the Boot on the TVR 3000S no problem. I have fitted the slightly higher pressure one in the Boot of the TVR 3000M and also fitted a Pressure Regulator no problem.
BOTH in Boot NO problem.
On the +2 Elan with the Fuel Tank in a high position there is already natural flow to feed Carb/Engine. Pump is always well primed.
With the Pumps in the Boot they are nice and easy to service. Also supply them with a Fused Relay and short Cable run from Battery nearby.

Aplogies and admission: I have never heard of Huco pumps! I only ever used Sytec and Walbro...

I would suggest if your fitting an inertia switch you don't fix it to grp.

The Grp doesn't transmit shock like metal does and the way GRP breaks up like digestive biscuit in a crash the shock the switch sees isn't always enough to set it off (unless the switch it's self is hit)

Moral of the story is bolt it to the chassis!!

I'm not saying a Huco in the boot won't work, Alan. I'm saying it is designed to go in the engine bay.

I think this is worth discussing, Grizzly. If bolted to the chassis the impact will likewise be softened by the extremities of the GRB body, no? In which case, can one really determine the best place to put it on an Elan?

The GRP body has next to no effect in a crash..... it literally breaks away to leave the chassis/running gear to take the hit. GRP has all the crash protection of digestive biscuit!!

I was working for the recover firm that picked this +2 up and it put me off every day driving GRP cars, the body had just exploded on impact http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/1583369.stm

Hi Jon ,
no problem, to be honest i don't think it matters. There are a choice of 2 different pressures and i have tried both with no problem.
I think you just fit them where you fancy and there is no problem
There is soooo much room in the +2 Boot and easy access so why not.
The most difficult thing is to get the Fuel Line to loop into the Boot space on a +2 from the Banjo. That's why imho many owners on a +2 don't bother and put it in the Engine Bay.

Yep..... from memory (was a while ago) he was turning right and completely miss judged how fast the transit van was closing him. Lotus was doing 5-10mph and the Van was doing 40.

I guess the thing is if the switch was triggered or not the circuit would have been broken.
