Most ( ) of the turbo engines I have enjoyed have been IC engines.
I care deeply - to the point of getting all weepy - about the 'proper' engine in my car(s).
My last transplant victim had the following (IC) engines examined, offered up, installed, removed, re-installed before I settled on the one I felt right for the car.
Fiat 1.8 Twin Cam
Mazda 2.0
Pinto 2.3
Zetec 2.0
KA24DE
Gen 1 SHO
I eventually settled for a Honda (IC) engine because it fitted the character of the car - had I found an all electric 'engine' which felt right I may have gone that route. I am no snob when it comes to engines, if a turbo works well on a particular car, great, bung it on and give the welly, ditto a supercharger etc.
Nothing is sacred in my book - as long as it fits, for me, the character of the car.

A cosworth, formula atlantic, or other high dollar lump for those of you with dollars
the duratec is just not enough of a jewel as i see it, as good and reliable as they are
yes, one can fabricate parts to make it look better. Individual throttle bodies, valve cover... whatever.
maybe the title of the post should have read, PowerTrain options
