Robin,
Have you seen the link I put in this thread?
http://www.lotuselan.net/forums/lotuselan-plus2-f51/elan-plus-buying-guidance-t37051.html
The company in the US, Vintage Performance Development, are able to supply as someone at work has made inquiries only the other day and got prices from them to the UK so they will ship overseas.
Cheers,
Simon

hi Simon
actually this is the company I have been contacting to get more info/prices but I am still waiting for a response.
Hopefully soon because I am seriously interested. Today I emailed another company in Texas that does the same thing. I have been warned they are not the quickest either in responding but I keep my fingers crossed.
Maybe they were a little put of by my email, where I raised some concerns made by Rohan, with regards to the use in automotive applications?? who knows, hope to hear back soon.
cheers Robin

Hi Robin,
Ok, sorry. thought you were talking about the apparently defunct company earlier in this thread.
All I can say is that when they were emailed around March time they responded within a day or two and seems very happy to sell the parts. I cant see why the bits wouldn't work as the Elan must be smoother running than the carbs being shook to death on a Harley!
Cheers,
Simon

when installing the mikuni's to a Stromberg head, do you use the vacuum balance pipe between the carbs or just mount the carbs directly onto the manifold??
any experience/ opinions welcomed.
robin
PS they look awesome on the car, can not wait to test these

I am considering a Mikuni HSR 42 conversion for my Elan S4 and was wondering whether the balance pipe will be required or not? Has Robin's question been answered in another thread maybe?
Thanks in advance,
Max

hi Max
I always try to finish a thread with a follow up/ solution, but unfortunately I have not made any progress in the last few years, and my plus 2 is sitting waiting for the mikuni carbs to be sorted.
I started playing around with the mikunis a few years ago, but never finished it due to house moves and other projects. My aim is to start again on the plus 2 mid next year.
Unfortunately I can not answer your question, I tried to run the car without the balance pipe but the engine did not run as it should be. If I remember correctly it lacked some torque, but at this stage unsure if it is carb related or other issues. I seem to remember I had low compression in one of the cylinders.
I hope someone else has done the conversion and will be able to help you with your question.
sorry I can not be of any more help at this stage.
cheers Robin

You need a balance pipe. Cylinders 3 and then 2 will run leaner than 1 and 4
Also motorcycles have less need for an accelerator pump, but on a heavy car with a heavy flywheel, I would think you would feel its lack.
I would put the stock manifolds back in place, I think the length would also help torque

Ok, I will plan for a balance tube, and thanks for the quick replies.
Any ideas whether there is a performance difference between a modified Federal adapter block and the UK Stomberg balance pipe plates?
