Spyder zetec mt75

PostPost by: memnon » Sat Sep 03, 2022 8:38 am

We've just got our +2 spyder elan on the road,
The gearbox is as bought from spyder with their selector, but it jumps out of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

An Mt75 specialist has rebuilt the box and says he can't see a reason for it, we've checked for lever interference and xant see any....

Has anyone else had this issue,or am I unlucky enough to have a duff box?

Got the same gearbox in my Spyder +2, never once jumped out of gear in 19 years.
Did you get the gearbox as a ‘fit yourself’ kit or did Spyder fit it ?
Suggest a phone call to Spyder to pick their brains before spending any more time/cash.
Good luck,
Darren

Thanks Darren,

Fitted to the chassis by Spyder along time ago, but only just finished last week! I'll give them a call.

So long as I know its not a "normal thing, if you haven't done x...." I know where I am

Hopefully Spyder can help you out.

I had bad luck trying to get my MT75 rebuilt locally. To be fair they are very uncommon our side of the pond and it was very difficult to source the correct parts, which I supplied from the UK. I was having issues with popping out of gear after the local service, which had never been a problem before hand.

I finally shipped the unit back to Spyder for a full rebuild. It now works perfectly. I believe in my case one of the main castings needed full replacement, in addition to a bunch of the rotating parts. Reviewing the parts breakdown I was left with the impression some of the stuff I sourced may not have been correct, which probably frustrated the whole endeavour.

I understand Spyder send the MT75’s out to a specialist. Worked well for me to arrange shipping with Spyder anyway as they have so much experience with international courier requirements. It took several weeks for the work to be completed by the specialist, so allow for that.

As Andy told me he was sending it out, I carefully wrote out all the symptoms and issues I had, including a duff speedo drive, reverse switch, noises, gear pop out, etc.and packed a copy with the transmission. Their specialist addressed everything on the list.
