Modified seat mount

PostPost by: PaulFinch » Wed Mar 19, 2014 8:25 pm

Hi,

Having spent the weekend fitting a full safety devices cage to my Elan that is being prepared for some track action, I now want to do something about securing the seat to a slightly more reliable surface than a few mm of 45 year old fibreglass.
Kelsport do an aluminium panel which picks up on the cage and I think this is probably the way to go.
Does anyone have one of these items or use have any other methods of upgrading this potentially serious weak spot?

I have searched for my answer but wasn't really able to find a definitive conclusion.

Thanks in advance,

Paul

You also need to throw the seats away.... I believe Elise seats fit.

I have used: http://www.cfsnet.co.uk/acatalog/Nidapl ... _Core.html to strengthen the floor of my Europa & I plan to do the same with the Elan. I am also adding stress spreaders underneath [large washers effectively]. Certainly you can't continue with the the current arrangement.

Currently seeking a suitable alternative for the seats. The originals will go in the loft, or on ebay!

So far got it narrowed down to the motordrive pro2, cobra racer pro or tillett B6.

The product you mention looks interesting. Is this bonded in to the current floor or have you cut that out and used this as a replacement?

Paul,
Put the originals in the loft, you will regret putting them on Ebay in the future when you want to go original.
I have clamped mine through the floor rather than rely on the bobbins, but a sheet of aluminium both sides of the fibreglass would probably be better. Anchoring to the roll cage sounds a good idea.
Kindest regards
