Honda S2000 engine and box
Came accross a very reasonably priced Honda Vtec engine and S2000 gearbox recently so couldn't resist'
The gearstick is cast into the rear of the box but after 45 mins with disc cutter, drill, tap the gearstick now lives approx 1 inch further back than the std Elan stick.
A small bit of cutting in the front box section will see the engine clear of the chassis and there are sufficient lugs cast into the engine's sides to make up engine mounts to suit. The original mounts on the chassis will prbably have to be removed.
I'll keep pics posted as I progress. The engine can be chipped to generate 245bhp at 9000rpm.
Intention is to fit a Sierra Cosworth LSD with the 2.0ltr granada 4.28:1 diff ratio.
I will use my spare modsports centre section from 1971 which will cover the 10inch rear tyres and 9 inch fronts.
I'll keep you posted

This interests me very much. I had thought about his conversion before, but had no need to even consider it. I still don't, but it still interests me very much anyway. I've driven S2000's and they are great cars. How do you think the rather peaky nature of the S2000 will work in an Elan? I fully understand the diff change with 4:28 gears, I might even consider 4:55's given the 9000 rpm redline. Can't wait to follow the progress on this one.

I'm intrigued not only by the ingenious engineering you are carrying out, but also by what you'll call it Dave.
A Londa? Or Hondus? Or S2K Elan?
Any way, best of luck with it and I look forward to following your progress.

0-60 in 2.5 seconds; backwards.
Presumably Dave discovered this as he "reversed" out of his drive, via the the wall of his garage and the garden of the house backing on to him?
Cheers,
Pete.

I had also heard that the engine rotated the opposite way but I checked the Engine in my Civic Type R and it rotates the same as a twincam.
Diff will be a sierra Cosworth with 2.0 ltr Granada CWP giving 4.2 final drive.

Dave,
Searching the Honda forums; someone asked if an S2000 owner could go out and turn his engine on, the reply: "standing in front of the car and looking down at the motor, the crack(sic) pulley spins clockwise"
And the reply to that:
"Thank you. Now we know, it spins OPPOSITE from the F/H/B/D motors."
Not sure if this helps. btw; it looks quite a tall engine to me.

Dave, Hats off to you for attempting this, but do check reg the crank rotation. I know someone who has put one of these in a caterham & various civic engines into elises. I do remember him saying that most of the s2k engines turn the opposite way & are quite different from the civic type r engine. there is an identifying number like k20a something or other....
Btw you're not leaving it in a standard floppy elan chassis are you? Would be worth buying an unpainted spyder zetec chassis which takes a sierra diff already wouldn't it?
Cheers,
Mark.

Hi Dave,
I am also attempting to install a vtec engine in my '67 Elan. Have you installed the motor and if you have how did you do it and could you update pictures? The motor looks a little too big for the amount of space that is required for the engine but if it is possible i would like to know how you did it.
thanks,
Brennan

Nothing to do with me but...the way you've hacked into the V of the chassis to fit the gearbox extension would worry me a bit if it didn't have some extra bracing??

Found this online. Not sure how to get in touch with this guy to figure out how he did it, but doesn't seem to be going in reverse.
First tryout of my Elan with S2000 engine gearbox and diff. No locks for the hood or passengerdoor, Tape works just fine!

Hi Guys
Not made much progress recently due to work commitments.
The chassis will be fully strengthened more so than a 26R spec unit.
I have also decided to fit the S2000 diff unit as well which is a little more compact than the Sierra unit.
The T5/ Siearra diff/Turbo engine is still ongoing and once both the rolling chassis are built up I will decide whether to put the Shapecraft body on the turbo or S2000 version, the other chassis will have to wait for the 26R replica shell to be finished.
I'll post pics as I go along.
The insane +2 has spurred me on a bit in the last few weeks
