Is there a way to block posts or remove belligerent members?

PostPost by: holywood3645 » Wed Mar 23, 2022 6:10 pm

Some time we just need to ignore subscribers or posts. Or a way to have them removed if they continue to cross the line.
It is a very small precedent of the members that continue to do this. But it makes for a hostile environment and one, I want to avoid.

Is there a process to be able to do this?

Thanks

James

The rules state:

Community Conduct. By using and/or registering for the community boards, user pages, blogs (the “LotusElan.net Blogs”) or other tools or applications for communicating, posting, or creating User Content (collectively the “User Tools”), you agree to use the User Tools only to post User Content that is proper and related to the particular forum. By way of example, and not as a limitation, you agree that when using the User Tools, you will not:
Defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate the legal rights (such as rights of privacy and publicity) of others.
Post any inappropriate, profane, defamatory, infringing, obscene, indecent or unlawful topic, name, material or information

How is this enforced?

I have messaged Jeff Cocking (who runs this excellent site) once or twice when I have felt things have got a little too heated and he has acted.

Asking for a friend.

In my (limited) experience of posting on forums, Lotuselan.net is one of the nicest and most civil forum to belong to. A great source of information, and even when there is the occasional sharp comment, it is usually done in a humorous way.

IMHO, the 'I'm going to block you, get you removed, complain to the moderator' approach is playground politics. Unless a user is actively spamming a thread making it difficult to follow, or offering timeshare properties or dubious medication, then I am of the 'live and let live' school.

We are all grown up on here - rather like the remote control on my TV that lets me change channel if I don't like what I see, I find that skipping over posts that I find disagreeable is an easy solution to this problem.

Adding the offending person to the block/foe list is not enough, they need to be excluded, they have had repeated temporary bans, but they always come back and do the same thing all over.

No! Not you! Yeah you missed it, but really it was a forum member that has a history of this, Jeff has removed his comments.

This forum is really no different to any of the others these days.
There are always a few vocal members who are right. Always.
Just block them and move on. At least this one gives you that option, there is one I go on that doesn't and seeing the same people over and over trying to destroy anyone who doesn't agree with them is painful.

No doubt I'm on the list of offensive people from Australia who are always right. Whilst I haven't been banned or suspended yet it's well worth being forewarned that there is such a process for elimination - no doubt I've come close at times as I sure seem to have offended some people or at least awoken them from slumber.

Seriously though having a few weirdos and shall I say, unusual, people on this forum gives it colour (where are you El-Saturn from the Swiss Alps - I miss you). I'm sure both Chapman and Duckworth would not have been meek and mild blamange type characters.

I agree with Andy8421. If you don't like it switch off. It's a democracy. We are all entitled to get emotional at times but don't hold on to it. Let it go.

Indeed, it's all rather petty, but in my opinion, outright rudeness has no place here or in any civilised discussion group.

Some less so than others...

While I agree with the general sentiment (ignore the idiots) we have to accept that outright insults etc. discourage others from participating, thus we all lose out.

The site owner Jeff Cocking is usually very responsive to PMs, here's a link to make it easy -https://lotuselan.net/forums/ucp.php?i=pm&mode=compose&u=4791

Right next to the QUOTE button is a button with an exclamation mark.
That button is what you use to report a message to Jeff Cocking the administrator of this site.
It is then up to him to decide and perform any actions.

Overall lotuselan.net is an incredibly polite forum.
