SOLD
The time has come to sell my lovely 1971 Lotus Elan Series 4SE FHC after 4.5 years ownership to make way for an Elise.
With very low mileage of 44800, believed genuine (based on the history file), in lovely Royal Blue.
The car has had some restoration work over the years (as would be expected), with bodywork mainly done in 2008/9 as far as I can tell from the history file. The person that owned the Elan before me had quite a lot of mechanical and maintenance work done over his six years ownership with receipts of around £7,000 from Morland Jones, a Lotus specialist in Hammersmith which closed a few years ago.
The engine has been rebuilt in the past with unleaded head and the car sits on a Lotus galvanised chassis.
I have a large history file that includes all bills and receipts, MOTs etc going back over 30 years to 1991. The mileage on the 1991 MOT certificate is 37,697. The mileage now is just over 44,750. So it's only done about 7,000 miles in the last 30 years!
There are only 6 former keepers, with 3 of these being in the last 10 years.
The interior is excellent overall.
There are a few bits that require some attention to make the bodywork perfect:
Bonnet - There is a crack alongside the RHS of the bonnet bulge.
Drivers Door - This could benefit from some work as there are some faint gel cracks over its surface.
Inside a door shut also needs a little attention, again where there is some cracking.
I have always meant to get these areas fixed but just never got around to it.
There are some other very small blemishes/bits, but overall the car looks lovely and presents very nicely indeed (see pictures below).
Modifications (improvements) include: roll bar, electronic fuel pump, aluminium fuel tank, Kenlow fan, alternator conversion, Williams harness belts, amongst other things.
The Elan is currently running on twin SUs; and runs great, much better than my S3 that runs on twin Webers . Some other owners have their Elans running on SUs, but not many. I also have the Stromburgs in a box and these will come with the car.
This Elan is quite unique given the mileage and history file.
I am looking for offers of £25,000.
The car is located in Richmond, Surrey. TW9.
Let me know if you are interested or have any questions.
