March '68 +2, 1 prev owner, 138Bhp - UK

PostPost by: pptom » Sun Aug 21, 2022 4:24 pm

Selling my March '68 +2 which i rebuilt in 2019.
1 previous owner !!
The car had a full rebuild with an extensive list of 'enhancements'
I rebuilt the engine in 2019 when it was +40' with QED 360 cams and a ported / polished head (reground crank, balanced, shortened jackshaft, new guides and seats etc), in 2020 I opted to go for QED 420 cams with adjustable cam pulleys and take the opportunity to have the block sleeved back to standard bore and installed Omega pistons, and a new Helix clutch kit, the car was still running on the rebuilt DCOE Webers at this point and after the rebuild I had it ran in and jetted at Northampton Motorsports. Ever one to tinker and not being especially happy with the Webers, I fitted Fuel Injection in 2021 with an Omex ECU and crank triggered injection. again, it went to Northampton Motorsports to be calibrated and finished up with a very useable, drivable and economical 138Bhp.

Lotus Galvanised Chassis (fitted in 1994 I'm told, but the car never returned to the road until I got hold of it)
Stainless inner sills
Sue Miller CV driveshafts
Spyder front and rear tubular wishbones
New wheel, diff, prop and gearbox bearings and seals
Gearbox stripped and rebuilt with new selector forks
New head lining, + carpets, front seats retrimmed and boot re-boarded and carpeted - sound deadening throughout
Modernised electrics with relays and a comprehensive fusebox
Dash stripped and re-laquered (veneer was good)
Re-cored Radiator fitted with electric fan
Burton modular waterpump
Baffled sump
Twin circuit AP brake master
New clutch master and slave
All calipers rebuilt with stainless pistons
a good friend is an electroplater, so everything reused has been replated - calipers, various nuts + bolts etc
TTR front and rear suspension
Mx5 fuel filler and re/routed breather mods
MX5 headlight motor conversion
Rebuilt pedal box with removable access panel, new silver steel removable axle shaft, pedals bored to take acetal lined bronze bushes
Rebuilt steering rack with solid rack mounts
Stainless door hinges with brass bushes
stainless exhaust inc manifold from Sue Miller
Lots of other things which I'll probably add when i remember!

I'd like to think I've done everything possible to make this car as reliable and liveable as possible. It has no hidden problems nor anything waiting under the woodwork to come out, everything had been addressed and I am sure it will give years of trouble free motoring. I have a comprehensive receipt file from the rebuild and ongoing improvements

Sitting on 89k miles
I'm asking for £25500

In 1 of your pictures Tom, you show the rear calipers in pieces. Who did you use to plate them and were you entirely happy with the results?

Thanks,

Leslie

I've got a friend who is an electroplater which is handy!
I shot blasted them and he plated them in passivated zinc (gold effect) they've held up really well.
I remember he mentioned that he does loads of calipers and they can sometimes be a bit hit and miss due to porosity and quality of the castings, but it's like anything really in that if you get a decent person doing the job it makes all the difference. He's done 5 pairs of calipers now and they've all been Bob on.

Hi

That is a lovely and very special car. If I did not have three +2's in various states of rebuild I would be in negotiations with you.

Best of luck with the sale. The right person will be along shortly I am sure.

Berni
Zetec+ 2 under const, also 130S. And another 130S for complete restoration. Previously Racing green +2s with green tints. Yellow +2 and a couple of others, all missed. Great to be back 04/11/2021 although its all starting to get a bit out of control.
