One of my S1 Elans is available - registered 1/1/64 and one owner car until 2016 - rare black dash and factory factory fitted 26R style wheel and original interior.
The car has had a new new chassis plus fast road TTR suspension and brakes, refreshed gearbox and engine to sprint spec with an early style head rebuilt by Nick Stagg around 1000 miles ago.
Why tell everyone now?! The car is coming to the end of a full body restoration (original engine bay being left as is) with a hard top included - there is still chance to pick the final paint colour, it was originally red.
If you are interested in this type of car and in a particular colour please make contact as soon as possible prior to any final colour decision, you can have the colour of you choice/dreams!
Thanks
David

Good thinking Steve - not had anyone step forwards yet, will go either the original red or maybe white if left up to me.

Hi David, I vote for Medici Blue, but as I recently bought what appears to be a very early S1 racecar, I seem to have a strong surplus of Elans right now.
The world needs more Medici Blue Elans.
cheers, Andrew

Thanks Steve - interesting car this one - registered 1/1/64 so probably earliest registered one with Lotus (as opposed to Bourne) built body and one of the half dozen or so Elans which left the factory with a black dash.

Hi David, I still love your car (even though it is red! ) but I still cannot buy it, as I still have a strong surplus of early Elans. Just out of curiosity, and a desire to document the details of these early cars, I wish ask if the black dash is made from vinyl covered wood, or vinyl clad steel as fitted to the Sevens, or black painted wood? I have heard a number people discussing these very rare factory built black dash cars over the years, and I would appreciate knowing more about them. I believe that Radford also built at least one Elan with a padded, black vinyl covered dash which looks to have about 1/4" thick foam padding. I have a picture of that car somewhere. I appreciate learning more about your car. Best regards, Andrew

Hi Andrew
The black dash on this S1 (earliest known with Lotus made body) is simply painted over what seems to be the original teak laminate dash.
It is still available if anyone is interested although not widely marketed for sale at the moment.
