71? Elan +2s project car

PostPost by: SonofDtarkir » Tue Aug 01, 2017 9:38 pm

My father in law (dtarkir) recently passed away. He was unable to finish his elan +2s before he left. I've watched him every step of the way during the restoration... So much work, being that the car sat for 20 yrs in a field in Texas.
He has the body about 90% ready for paint. Made some mods... Regeared a t111 trans, moved the drivers seat back 2 inches (he was 6ft 4). Fill more than half the holes in the engine compartment... Abandoned the vacuum powered head lights... Planned on using electric motors from a supra...
I work on cars. But have never taken on a resto. I know that everything has been tagged and bagged. He was very organized.

We would like to sell the lotus, but have no idea what its value would be in it current condition. If anyone could point me in the direction it would greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Danny

Pictures would help

Condition of chassis?
Engine?

The more together a car is the more value it has.
A stack of boxes frequently takes longer to assemble than planned.

A car that runs and drives is worth more than one that does not

A good professional paint job can cost more than some cars are worth

I agree that photo's would help.

The +2 is very unknown in the US so there is a very limited market of purchasers but equally a limited number of cars coming to market. There been a couple of very much project +2 on Hemmings that are now ~7/8K. These have been on there for sometime and have been reducing in price during that (the selling dealers are the most respected...).

Whether you +2 is worth more or less will depend on condition and finding a buyer so wants a project in a box. With photo's you'll get some input from the folks here. You might even want to stick an ad on the site but I think you either need to be patient or let it go very cheaply to get a quick sale.

Also any more details on t111 trans?

(I am surprised about moving the seat, my 6'8" brother fits in mine better then any other car he's been in... and I am 6'2" and don't have the seat full back.)
'73 +2 130/5 RHD, now on the road and very slowly rolling though a "restoration"

Agree with all of the above and until we actually see the car I suspect it will remain where it is, as it is.

Photos please.
