With a heavy heart I am considering selling ?Little?un? our treasured 1969 S4 Elan DHC.
When I bought the car it had obviously been off the road for many years following a bump in the nose. It had already benefited from a replacement Spyder stressed skin chassis which was blasted and painted and remains in excellent condition (much stronger than the factory frame) The body was stripped to bare gel coat, fitted with a new nose section and extensively strengthened with extra layers of glass added to the high stressed areas and impact areas such as under the wheel arches. Using the process described by Miles Wilkins much care was taken to eliminate crazing and cracks and to prevent any moisture getting into the laminate or paint and the body was then sprayed with polyester spray filler and refinished using a quality 2K paint system It was finished in yellow over white with gold stripes (as pictured) remains in very good condition 10 years on and is much admired.
While the body was off, the chassis was restored and rebuilt with all new suspension, brakes, steering, bearings, mountings and bushes throughout. The front suspension is OEM (with superior Spyder wishbones) and the rear is OEM springs over Koni dampers. The chassis and underside are still pretty clean.
The diff? had new bearings and seals and the gearbox was rebuilt by a gearbox specialist.
The engine (still on STD bores) was reassembled with new rings and bearings and the head had new guides and a light reface. Items such as timing chain, water pump and oil pump were also renewed. The car starts easily, pulls strongly and has excellent oil pressure at all times. It is on SE cams and Webers.
The car was rewired with a new loom, a new dashboard was fitted and the interior was retrimmed throughout including carpets, door cards and seats. It is fitted with an original leather Colin Chapman steering wheel. The hood was renewed and is still in excellent condition.
There are a few departures from standard, the colour scheme of course (but it really is the best IMO) It is fitted with an original set of Mick Miller CV driveshafts which remain in good condition. I converted to an alternator and contactless ignition for reliability and couple of years ago I fitted a rebuilt wide S3 radiator and automatic Kenlowe fan.
We have used and enjoyed the car during the summers and it remains in very good condition and has been totally reliable over our ownership. If looked after I see no reason why that should not continue to be so.
I have looked at the market and tried to arrive at a price I think is realistic and fair for a very pretty and above average Elan so I?m asking for ?27,995 or very near offer. (Search user ?nebogipfel? in the gallery for pictures which have appeared on the forum)
If you are genuinely interested please PM in the first instance.

Thanks Phil, not sure about knowledge but I'll remain an Elan enthusiast.
I have to stay on anyway to monitor the B*by Elan situation (my hackles were rising as I typed it)
