SOLD - 1970 Elan - (New Jersey, USA)

PostPost by: tedtaylor » Fri Jan 25, 2013 4:30 pm

New Jersey, USA. I'm offering my '70 Elan S4 drop head coupe for $15,000.
I just obtained this from the original owner. Bought new in Pittsburgh, PA. I have original bill of sale from the dealer. It is Burnt Sand in color with black interior. Very original unmolested example. Pictures are when I extracted it from its long storage. Its been off the road for 20 years. Will clean up nicely. Motor turns free, but I haven't tried to get it to run. Chassis rolls freely. Car will need complete going over and most likely will need hydraulics redone. Has spare and tool kit in trunk. Has original radio option from dealer. Has original twin Strombergs set up in original configuration with crossover tubes. Has minor front lip above bumper crack in fiberglass (bumped into something) and a spider crack on left rear quarter probably from the battery movement in trunk not tied down? Nothing missing.
I fully intended to keep this until my other Elan S4 was completed by this Spring. Email me any questions ([email protected]) Would consider trade for S4 Seven.

couple more pix... Nice to know someone actually likes "burnt sand". I thought since it wasn't racy red or BRG or something more traditional, that people would stick their nose up at it.
BTW, it has 54,000 miles.

I can't believe that a one owner 54k miles from new and super-original Elan drophead is still for sale at that sort of money. I think it would have been snapped up in a few minutes over here in the UK!

Burnt Sand is a pretty rare colour now, and it's great to see the odd one turn up at shows. They do look superb when polished up. Miles Wilkins has a Burnt Sand S4 Coupe which he's had from new, and he declares that it won't be for sale until he's gone! He calls it his cardboard Elan.

Go on Mike.....a small trip across the US in a truck....it won't take up much space!
