1964 Lotus Elan S1 SOLD

This thread reminded me that my car was woefully underinsured. I therefore called the insurance company and increased the agreed value 3 times what I initially had: a level still well under replacement cost. I?ll review the value again when I get the car back from paint.

I was surprised that they asked for no proof of value when increasing it 3x. I have all my receipts and a spreadsheet totaling all monies expended but they didn?t ask for it, although I did generally state the monies put into the car. The agreed value is well above the highest values shown by their valuation tools. But, as I discussed with them, my car does not fit into the stock categories (S4/Sprint) but is rather a ?road going? GTS that generally trade at much higher prices. The rep accepted this without argument.

My friend Chris (who owns an Elan S3) came over to drive my S2. Great day in Princeton for back road sports car driving! He commented how the original suspension set up really allows this car to be driven very nicely on any road condition.

SOLD! Great memories building this car and the road trips with friends. The new owner is a true Lotus enthusiast with other Lotus cars in his collection. I'll let him introduce himself as the new owner.

Thanks guys. Not sad at all. I rarely hold on to a car for longer than several years. I just finished a 3 year restoration of a 72 Lotus Europa that is also for sale. I enjoy the rebuilding as much as owning.
