I think Europtec was referring to a different car. Gareth, will it really be a while before I see you?

elanfan1....
There are 2 threads running here

1) the original post, a car for sale. possibly at lower price than current (perceived) market rates

2) a 2nd example (?5k car) where an interested buyer lost out on a sale , only to see someone else buy it and sell it at a profit shortly afterwards.

The underlying theme is about what is considered moral / underhand /etc ... The housing market is a good example of what can/does happen. I don't really know what it's like these days, but in the past gazumping & gazundering were rife.

" I still want to see you wedding car........ " Well, Gareth; The Swevic S32 5PZ, it`s not far.
Everybody else, I can`t recommend Riverside Engineering in Whaley Bridge highly enough. Gareth now goes there as does a pal with an M100 and a TR4, another with a 100/6 and yet another with a 100/4 and an Elite.
In fact, Gareth, (again now) I`m going there on Saturday to drop off a pal and if it`s not raining, I`ll go in the "wedding car" and call in and see your Lotus Evora. But it will be raining so I won`t and won`t. Not that I`m precious but it`s just been polished and, look, it`s shiney.

I am with Gareth if he was 1st to reply, had i been selling i would have given him 1st refusal if he offered the full asking price,a lot of other forums seem to follow this basic courtesy.Maybe this forum could follow a code of a simple queue system.I dont think that the price was that much to cheap, good value yes,but when you consider it needs new chassis(and probably all running gear o/hauled)new paint, interior sorted, gearbox fixed the car will owe someone 20K plus, the car wont be cheap for someone.Rip out the engine and 5 speed box and sell the rest its cheap :(

Got to look at it from the Sellers perspective too. I also contacted him at lunch time but it had already sold, he knew he was selling it cheap but he wanted it gone asap. I can fully understand why he would have taken the money off the first person to cross his palms with silver, not saying anyone here was wasting his time but there are too many people out there that ask loads of questions, test drive cars and bring people to inspect it just to make a mad offer that would never get excepted wasting every ones time. I'm afraid Money talks......

The other thing you have to take into account is who made contact first? On the thread Gareth may have put the first post up but the OP said PM him for details so only the OP can say who inquired first?

All i can say is i think the guy who bought it was very lucky, i would have been all over it too being right on my door step and it would have been worth a couple of grand more to me especially if it was matching numbers inc chassis, plus from what i've seen here i wouldn't have been the only one interested.

I had contacted the seller who very kindly sent me a couple of 'old' photos and said hed send some more later in the day.......had I realized that I wouldn't get the chance to see and further pictures....and that this was the way it was done I may have offered money......

I was being courteous and not pushy........appeasing the seller after all its his to sell.......
if he'd have said to me someone else is in front of you and is interested I would have said ok fine....let that person go first and decide if they're having it or not and then let me know........

common decency......plain and frikin simple

to get messages from the purchaser......

"don't you dare buy that +2"

"I want it"

"I'll pay more than you offer"......

great isn't it.......

Gareth,

How did the purchaser know you were involved and also have your contact details?

If this is a dealer that has in not so many words threatened you as in 'don't you dare...' I think we should be given a clue as to who that was because that's just not cricket!

So are you saying you received a threat by pm here?

If so post it up - the originator should be rightly ashamed.
