1970 Elan+2S

PostPost by: brandon » Tue May 21, 2019 10:18 pm

Time is a funny thing in that there is never enough of it. With an Elan S1, Classic Mini, 2 children, and a house restoration to finish? I simply do not have the bandwidth to give my +2 the time it deserves. I purchased this 1970 +2S from the second owner in 2010, after he completed a body-on restoration. The restoration was very long term, during which it was stored inside from 1979 until 2010. As such, the interior is in generally very good condition, with the exception of the front floor mats and truck mats, which the previous owner disposed of.

The exterior was repainted at some point, and it is showing its age. However, it does look quite presentable when polished. Early in its time with me someone ran into the side of the car in a parking lot, hitting it just ahead of the of the passenger rear wheel well. Damage to the fiberglass was almost non-existent, with the exception that the seam with the fenderwell separated. However the paint did eject itself from the gelcoat in protest. A repair to the seam was made, and the rear quarter of the car below the beltline was repainted.

For anyone interested the previous owner?s original ad can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18717 where it lists their restoration items rather extensively.

I have done a few things to the car myself which include:
- Addition of Pertronix ignition system (rdent);
- Addition of alternator kit (rdent);
- Addition of throttle linkage kit (rdent);
- Replacement of headlamp vacuum cylinder (rdent);
- Replacement of headlamp micro-switches;
- Rechroming of front bumper, and replacement of rear bumper (Christopher Neil I think);
- Rebuilding of Weber head in 2016 (Britain West, Brantford, ON);
- Blasting and painting of rims (change from black to silver) in 2017;
- New Hankook Optimo 175-70-13 tires in 2017.

Additionally, I have purchased a few items which have not yet been installed, but would go with the car:
- New tubes and fittings for the headlamp vacuum system (rdent);
- New gaskets for the front windscreen (rdent), and rear window (MacGregor);
- New door seals (MacGregor);
- New interior door handles (rdent).

Other items which could be included would be:
- The original Stromberg head (do not have the carbs);
- The original generator;
- The original bumper (although it is not worth restoring);
- Spare front seats.

Although the car is a really good driver, I would be remiss to mention that I have been having problems with the Webers (DCOE40-18), despite the fact that they?ve been rebuilt. Specifically the car runs very rich, and I have not been able to tune it out.

For more info, please call or email Brandon (me) at 905-906-0679, [email protected]" target="_blank. The car is located just outside of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. For anyone interested in the car from the USA, I have a trailer and could meet at the border.

Asking $18,000USD, or $24,000CAD
